Antique zushi shrine enclosing a Medicine Buddha carved in wood and completely gilded; blue pigment in the hair. He is seated in meditation posture on a lotus throne upon an four-tiered architectural base. The base and the mandorla behind the Buddha are carved with curling clouds; a golden nimbus glows behind his head. The Buddha is wearing monk's robes, with a jar of medicine in his left hand and the right hand in vitarka mudra. The zushi box is also well preserved, the outside in black lacquer and the inside painted with red lacquer.<
