The founder of China's Taoism was born in Honan in 604 B.C. According to the ancient legend, Lao Tze was carried ninety years before birth, and was born an old man; hence the name Lao Tze, which means "Old Boy".
Here the "Old Master" is holding a wisdom pearl in the right hand, and a scepter in the left, seated with one leg pendant, a posture that generally portrays bodhisattvas. He emanates a compassionate presence, with its sublime expression, its grace and gentle smile, the Master of None-Being is brilliantly evoked in this impeccably silver finished bronze.
