Meditating Yogini 荼吉尼

Goddess in Padmasana

Circa: mid 20th century
H 17.5 in. (44cm), W 13.5 in. (34cm), D 6.5 in. (16.5cm)
Condition: excellent!
An original hand-sculpted avatar of the Divine Feminine, the celestial nymph goddess archetype- As a cosmic force, she creates, annihilates, and recreates the universe. She represents the manifestation of nature and fertility spirits. In her gentle Yogini form, she is the gracious grantor of boons, love, fortune, and success. Perhaps more apparent than the tan skin tone, it’s her exceptional beauty and voluptuous sensuality distinguished from those of earlier Sukhothai Devi figures. Here she is radiating both physical and spiritual luminosity gracefully in Padmasana lotus position. Her breasts have grown in substance, and her hips are in rounded contours, a high waistline framing a tightened abdomen, a conjecture of the Kundalini energy reaching the Anahata Heart Chakra in meditation. The large terracotta statue is speckled with attractive hand-sculpted tool marks; it has an aged earth-tone patina on the outside and lustrous clay red on the interior. In perfect preservation.
