Excellent condition!
A 19th-century gilded Satsuma vase. It has a globular body, an elongated cylindrical neck, and a rose bud-like top known as Suan-to-ping (Garlic Head Vase 蒜头瓶.) Densely decorated in polychrome enamels over a transparent crackled glaze, with revolving foliage borders interlaced into a myriad of traditional motifs and geometric diagrams, overlay with a pair of raised gold Botan (peony) medallions on two sides, adorning four beautifully painted panels of fourteen boys congregated together studying sutra with two Zen Masters. Like many Satsuma yaki before the cultural flowering of the Meiji era, this opulent antique vase is unsigned. It is in excellent preservation with no defect of any kind. A perfect centerpiece fit for the home or office.
