Eyes downcast in a serene expression. Right hand poised in the mudra of teaching as she fills the ocean with the nectar of her vase, which evokes the movement of wind-blow over the turbulent sea. This antique Chinese fruit wood carving embodies the goddess' majestic presence. The scene is reminiscent of traditional Chinese sculptures and paintings from the Tang Dynasty (618-907 AD). Carved with fine dexterity and imbued with peaceful composure, the statue is exquisite in the devotion of articulated carvings. It is in very good condition and is an exceptional find from the period.
