An Antique Japanese Ko-Kutani porcelain dish, hand-painted in traditional Mokuhanga style, in an unusual inverted scalloped edges design, with a transparent glaze over polychrome enamels and gilt, around revolving foliage and lavishly painted geometric motif, intersect with intricate free form patterns bordered around the 16 pointed rims. In a gorgeous orange cream background, depicting a prestigious family appears to be celebrating spring in flower arrangement (Kado 華道). The lady's layered luxurious kimono indicated they are of a particular class of royalty and aristocracy. The plate is signed in small Kanji in red: Great Japanese Kutani Made. Japanese ceramic history has it that Kutani porcelain was found in the Daishoji Clan's mine in 1655. The production was Known as Ko-Kutani that lasted about 60 years. It was again revived by Kutani Shoza (1816-1883) and several skilled artisans working with gaudy enamels and with gold brocade.
