A
beautiful polychrome Kwanyin, standing barefoot at 26 inches tall. The paint
on this early 20th century piece has aged evenly and pleasantly, creating the
appearance of a speckled mist of pastel colors having found their way to the fragrant
wood. Her hands and face are particularly well carved; slender, poised, and imbued
with feminine energy, while ribbons of red and sea green colored material drape
over her arms and descend freely, creating pockets of light and air within the
confines of the sculpture. Standing on a lotus plinth blooming in flower, the
goddess of compassion watches over the world. A lovely wooden piece in good condition.
