Antique
Japanese Tsutsu Kiseruzutsu
Cherry Wood Pipe case
Signature: unsigned, Circa: early 1900s'
H 8 in.(20cm), W 1.5 in.(4cm), D 1 in.(2.5cm)
Condition: excellent! This
19th century cherrywood pipecase (or tsutsu as it is traditionally called) is
an artful piece endowed with the aesthetic of Japanese wabi-sabi. The Wabi-sabi
aesthetic cultivates a finely honed paradox: the appreciation of sublime beauty
and perfection in that which is naturally imperfect. Objects, which exhibit a
deep sense of wabi-sabi, are highly prized by connoisseurs of Japanese ceremonial
art and objects. This
pipecase works with the natural form and shape of the wood. The beauty of the
knots and grain are enhanced and polished to a high sheen. This is an exceptional
art piece with a deeply honed aesthetic that speaks to the heart of Japanese tradition.
