The laughing Buddha, while initially derived from the Future Buddha Maitreya, was a Buddhist monk in China, where he became a joyous deity of good fortune and prosperity. In this incarnation, Budai is seen as rotund and amicable. He is holding a treasure sack in his right hand, looking up laughing with joy. This conception of the Laughing Buddha is most popular, with centuries of countless versions seen in Asian cultures. As shown here in this semi-translucent white jade Buddha. In flashes of light-celadon shaded in the natural white jade. The quality of the artistry has characters and liveliness. The wholesome figure is well carved with details and full of spirit. The carver has succeeded in animating the jadeite stone figure with irrepressible mirth. It keenly revealed the benevolence of the Happy Buddha.
