Snake and Mouse Netsuke

This intricate and richly rendered O Baku-yu, ivory netsuke melds together multiple elements into engaging moment in time: jutting irregular rock and minimal foliage, a coiled snake whose body artfully spans from the back to the front of the rock formation and an innocent mouse who does not know it will soon be devoured. The artist has fused extreme moments of finely rendered realism which may be interpreted with certain degree of abstraction. This ivory netsuke is tactile with minor usage worn. Delineated himotoshi are on the bottom of the piece and it is signed at the bottom with a delicately rendered artist signature. (SD)
