Antique Ivory carving, light cream in color, overall age patina, engraving with sumi. Depicting a tennin, a celestial being like an angel, who flies through the air, sometimes on her billowing garments, sometimes with wings of her own. Tennin are symbols of harmony and are often pictured with musical instruments, particularly the lute. It is a great blessing to see one for they are elusive. The seeker must climb to the top of a mountain, where they are said to alight. If he is fortunate enough to see a tennin, he may ask to have one wish fulfilled.
