Hairlines, aged condition! A
humane and lovable rendition of the benevolent, the Buddha of happiness, laughter,
wisdom and contentment. With a uchiwa in his left hand, this Maitreya reincarnated
Happy Buddha Hotei is laying back on an empty sack,
in which contains gifts
of treasure and good fortune; he is kindly gazing upward, his ears are plump and
elongated as befits one who is considered a bodhisattva, full
plump face is serene and expressive, his exposed large belly is highly polished
to a shine, in contrast with the
motifs of his kimono, which is defined by a subtle crosshatch, cloud and waves
patterns. Signed on the base, the signature Isshi is recorded in NK Davey's "Netsuke,
A Comprehensive Study Based on MT Hindson Collection" #862. Estimated
