Antique Chinese Bronze Statue Maitreya
Buddha
In Teaching Gesture Circa:
Ming Dynasty, 1368-1644 H.16.5 in.(42cm), W 9.5 in.(24cm),
D 7 (17.5cm) Weight:
10 Kg. Condition: excellent! A
well cast and elegant Chinese bronze Maitreya Buddha, in pristine condition other
than partial gilt loss shown on his face and hands. The Future Buddha represented
here is sitting in a Padmasana pose, on 218 petals overlaying in five
stratums of an oval-shaped
blossoming lotus. His
facial features are rendered with superb realism, delicately arched eyebrows,
slightly down cast almond shaped double eyelids, and a smiling bow-shaped mouth
radiates with benevolent expression. His hands are sensitively
modeled in the
Teaching Mudra (Dharmachakra). The
darkened bronze is luxuriantly ornamented,
with stylistically incised flower motifs on the Buddha's imperial Ming robe.
The artistry of the work is exceptional, with great care taken in every detail;
leaving no doubt that this is a work of unsurpassed skill and integrity of the
Ming Period.
