A
samurai approaches the bamboo grove, eyes glinting of inlayed copper in the
murk of a bronze night. His raised head gives a sense of movement while the intricate
etched detail upon his clothing reveals a depth of presence. Polished copper and
silver inlays combine to highlight the swirls of the kimono, a sword strapped
to his back, and a hachimaki pulled taut above the look of determination etched
in his face. Off in the distance lies a bamboo grove, and the suggestion of a
pond. An aged ivory base from which a three layered chain extends, surrounds the
sunken scene. A brief floral pattern caps the ojime. This piece is in excellent
condition, both the metal and the ivory show minimal signs of wear.
