This
well made polychrome Quan Yin stands four feet high, an immensely pleasing presence.
Carved from wood during the early 20th century, the piece is put together using
the joined block technique in order to minimize cracks over time. In her left
hand she holds the pearl of wisdom, and her right hand, hanging at her side, she
holds a stylized willow branch. Colors abound, from her snow colored skin, to
the pinks, greens, and reds that make up her dress. Necklaces of royalty hang
from her neck, forming an attractive geometric pattern across her chest. Two large
ribbons run the length of her body, extending past her feet to the base below.
The wood is extremely well carved, particularly her tiara and pleasing face. In
excellent condition.
