tall standing bronze Maitreya, the serene future Buddha. Well cast with hand chased
details, overall patina of black and green with deposits of verdigris. Faithful
to Southeast Asian styles established by the 12th Century and continuing, to this
day, with a formal symmetrical composition emphasizing the verticality of the
figure which is adorned with a five pointed crown, jeweled earrings, necklaces,
armbands, bracelets, studded anklets all symbolizing the precious state of pristine
awareness of the Boddhisattva, describing his attainments as worldly jewels and
ornaments not seen in representations of the historic Buddha Shakyamuni. Maitreya
is the figure of sparkling future happiness--joyous, abundant liberation.
