Condition: Very Good This
deeply carved censer is based on the ancient prototype dating back to 2500 years
B.C. To minimize cracks and breakage, the censer is carved with quality tusk in
separate sections, and later joined together with a well fitted lid to form a
cauldron. The decoration of this vessel is extensive. Starting from atop of the
lid, there is a large fu dog, carved through motif, totie masks and two small
loose rings. Around the vessel body are decorations of two dragons. Two tapered
handles flaring outward, each with a loose ring that dangles. Which effectively
adding additional vigor and balance to the design. The cauldron is standing on
three totie masked claw-footed legs, and mounted on a wooden base for additional
security. Private Collection |
