With rich rustic iron patina, the composition of this finely cast statue emits a forceful
presence. Kwan Yu, originally a general under the posterior of the Han dynasty
(Three Kingdoms, 220-265 A.D.). He was later raised to the status of Emperor,
and ennobled to be the God of War, and God of Literature during the Mid Ming Dynasty.
Here he is depicted wearing full armor, sitting powerfully on a boulder with both
hands resting on his knees, and gazing downward in a contemplative countenance
that insinuates the presence of a Buddha.
