Solid bronze, excellent condition!
A beautifully aged Hindu statue with a rich natural patina. A very fine example of Tamil Nadu Chola style bronze Hanuman, the god of strength and power, an ardent devotee of Rama, the reincarnation of Vishnu. Hanuman stands gracefully on a lotus, holding his characteristic mace detailed with motifs and etched ridges, With his hands in folded prayer, the Monkey God imposes but in a venerated manner. His youthful body is majestically ornamented and crowned in princely accouterments. On his back a long and slender tail gracefully ascends in a curl. While the bronze figure is superbly modeled both in the front and rear, the fluidity contained in the round firm flesh reveals the perfection of form that is truly Godlike.
