Condition: Very Good Well
carved from the near center of the tusk, dense and marked with striations and
cross hatching in the material, allover light stain with age patina, burnished
from handling with areas of wear showing the natural color. Signed on the bottom:
Gyokuseki The sacred white elephant is one of the Seven Treasures of Buddhism;
the bearer of the Wish Granting Gem, mounted upon its back. A white elephant was
never taken to war or ridden in procession, but was kept as a guest within the
palace.
