Guhyasamaja’s
name means Secret Union or Assembly of the Secret Ones. He is the attracting force
that represents the Union of all the Buddha clans. This Tibetan 19th century antique
gilded bronze depiction shows the robust youthful deity in ecstatic embrace with
his consort Sparshavajra. Her luminous eyes look up to meet his deep penetrating
gaze. This is a beautiful active rendition of the yab-yum, the Mother Father aspects
in dynamic union.
Here one consort is reflective of the other. Sparshavajra, the supple youthful
goddess, like her consort, has three faces and six hands. Together the couple
has twelve hands in dynamic motion each hand holding a key attribute that is reflective
of the mysteries of the Secret Union.
This
statue reflects an extraordinary eye for detail rendered in sumptuous lines that
beautifully communicates the complexity of the interaction between these two deities.
This piece is museum quality with a finely hued patina and a robust and highly
detailed artistry. (SD)
