fine okimono in cream to honey colored tones of ivory, with striations and markings
scattered over the garment area and on the back of the piece. Made for export
during the early years of the twentieth century, the delicate figure of a woman
is posed in a demure posture, with her robes held close about her as she offers
a delicately carved bouquet of peonies. Her head bends slightly downward, the
features smooth and sensitively rendered, her face shadowed by an elaborate and
carefully engraved formal coiffure. Her robe and obi are inscribed with embroidered
motifs of leaves and flowers. She stands in her clogs on an ivory base that is
engraved on the bottom with a geometric pattern and the fluidly written signature:
