| | An
engraved Edo era gilt bronze bamboo kiseru in a leather kiseruzutsu, en suite
with a gilded menuki on a leather tobako-ire, chain-links to a metal-backed ashtray
manju netsuke. The pipe has chiseled decoration of an oni, the Goddess of Mirth
Okame on the mouthpiece and the profile of a monk on the bowl end. The glitter
of the gilded gold (shakudo) has since been partially rubbed off on the pipe;
nonetheless the rich bronze patina in these parts are ever more pleasing with
the adjoining bamboo of deep purple hue. The leather pouch and sheath are in good
shape, though the menuki kanamono which depicting a sennin riding on a tortoise
has lost much of its gilding. Original completed set in a combination of artistry
and cultural heritage, save the crack line on the side of the ashtray netsuke,
the set is in good condition.
