A
19th century bronze mirror-lid housed in a newer cherrywood enclosure. This
antique bronze kagamibuta netsuke depicts a pronounce sennin-like figure. A medicine
man who is signified by his staff, out of which displays intricately gilded gold
leaves, silver obi, and a copper plated little bird merrily accompanying him.
Which enables us to glimpse into the folklore and customs of the old Japan. The
sennin's facial features and balding long hair are partially worn due to its age.
Nevertheless, along with his upright countenance, the rich tradition of indigenous
flora in herbal medicine is honored in the theme of this kagamibuta netsuke.
