The
bodhisattva Quan Yin is a highly popular deity throughout Asia and can be found
in multiple forms though out Tibet, China Korea and Japan. This graceful carved
wood statue shows the goddess atop a powerful and beautifully rendered dragon.
The elements of this statue move together with amazing grace. Quan Yin’s robes
flow into the dragon, ocean waves and the highly detailed lotus leaf. Her countenance
amongst the dynamism is of deep peace and equipoise: All moves around her but
she is still. Quan Yin holds a whisk in her right hand and pours out a steady
stream of immortality nectar from her vase to benefit all beings. The artistry
in this statue makes it an excellent find a beautiful depiction of this potent
and beloved bodhisattva. (SD)
