Chinese, Circa: 20th Century H
27 in.(69cm), W 13 in.(33cm), D 8 in.(20cm)
Condition: excellent! A
giving mudra begetting a giving mudra, Quan Yin sits in the palm of her spiritual
teacher Amitabha, her left hand a mirror image of her supporting foundation. The
supporting arm of the celestial Buddha rises from a lotus themed double plinth;
a ribbon wraps around his forearm, one end rising in ornament while the other
supports the immense palm. Quan Yin, sitting in the royal ease, is painted with
red and gold, flowering in pattern. Amitabha’s gesture symbolizes renunciation,
giving up his prized student to the world; an embodiment of compassion. The bonze
has been cast in multiple sections and remaining in excellent condition.
