Akshobhya, meaning "The Immovable," is one of the five Great Wisdom Buddhas in Vajrayana Buddhism. He presides over the Eastern Pure Land, Abhirati, and represents indestructible reality and unshakable consciousness. Cast from a clay mold and gilded with a youthful face, this immaculate statue depicts a powerful, jet-black Wisdom Buddha seated in dhyanasana on an intricately crafted lotus throne. He wears a sanghati, with his right hand in the humisparsa mudra (earth-touching gesture) and his left hand resting in his lap, holding a medicine bowl in the dhyana mudra. This symbolizes the transformation of negative emotion into "mirror-like wisdom." The statue is consecrated, as shown by the sealed base engraved with the double-thunderbolt (Viswavajra). This compelling Akshobhya statue has an immense presence and spiritual force.
