Go beneath the marks and passage of time and you see a figure in perfect equipoise and deep peace for Shakyamuni is the historical Buddha shown in timeless enlightenment. The drape of the Buddha’s robes are simple yet elegant. His hands are gracefully poised in the charity mudra. His face exhibits the roundness that is characteristic of Chinese holy figures. The slight tilt of the head indicates dynamism in the midst of peace. His bare feet touch the Mother Earth. This is a unique and beautiful statue that lets time artfully speak its story. (SD)
