An
impeccable Japanese Amida shrine, presenting the Buddha of Infinite Light with
hands in Amida Jo-in mudra, his eyes down cast in meditation, seated in lotus
posture upon a lotus flower, surrounded with upturned petals in three distinct
layers above a ten strata shrine, elevating the Buddha figure with a sublime equipoise,
inspiring a reverent sensibility with this splendid construction of a heavenly
throne. The quality of the carving itself is simple and immaculate, from the concentric
folds of the deity’s robe, uniformly proportioned levels of the base and plinth,
and in particular, the hair and facial features of Amida Buddha; his nose and
mouth crafted with subtle, curving depths, with inlays of a small diamond and
a red stone that complements its simplicity of form, which ultimately resonates
with a spiritual essence in its entirety.
