Mahavairocana
(Japanese: Dainichi Nyorai), the cosmic origin of matters. He is the supreme deity
in the Esoteric Buddhist pavilion. As depicted in this highly refined rosewood
carving. Vairocana is performing the Knowledge Fist mudra. In which five fingers
of the left hand represent the five elements, and fingers of the right symbolize
the five-wisdom that embraces life. This mudra expresses the fundamental oneness
of mind and matter. The sign of a non-duality of man and Buddha, which makes it
our divine right to attain Buddha-hood here and now.
