gilt bronze Buddha Shakyamuni, the historic Buddha at the moment of his enlightenment,
in which he called the earth to witness his illumination. The
Buddha is seated in meditation posture above a lotus pedestal, with right hand
in the earth-pointing bhumisparsa mudra, dressed in a monk robe adorned with elaborately
incised motifs. On his upturned left palm is an engraved chakras. Although
simple in design, the expression of the Buddha is serene. The work is subtly realized
with a spiritual essence in an unshakable equipoise. The statue is consecrated
and sealed with a engraved visvavajra copper plate.
