This
19th century Burmese marble statue imbued with a powerful presence. The fusion
of the Amitabha Buddha meditating above a peacock. The symbol of bodhisattvas
in that they have the ability to transform ignorance, desire and hatred--- and
lead them into enlightenment that opens gracefully as the peacock's gorgeous tail.
This
statue is hand-painted in mustard, red and green. There is a symmetrical alliance
in form and countenance of both the Buddha and the peacock throne. Radiating with
attentiveness and peace, his hands are gracefully arched in the Mara Vijaya (Earth
witness mudra). A potent statue of great charm, a colorful representation of the
art of the Burmese Buddhism.
