Circa: Late Ming Dynasty. 17th-18th century

Condition: chips, erosion, o.a. good!
This
Ming era Buddha communicates an innate peacefulness, a deep reflection of the
moment when the historical Buddha Shakyamuni was enlightened. Carved of antique
marble this Buddha conveys classical Chinese features a rounded face and chin,
full lips and graceful eyes nearly closed. The high detail on the snail-shell
hair curls attest to its providence. The raw stone on the back of the head provides
compelling contrast to the considerable detail on the rest of the statue. Which
suggested that it may have been chiseled from a larger stele. There
are some chips and erosion but otherwise this is in very good condition. (SD)
