This
Ming Dynasty marble statue is a highly evocative depiction of Shakyamuni Buddha
at the moment of enlightenment. The calm presence of the Buddha brings life to
the stone. The sumptuous earlobes and the full round face are hallmarks of Chinese
depictions of the Buddha. This would have topped a substantial statue that would
have been part of a temple complex. The fine artistry and finely detailed snail
hair curls give indication of its providence. With minor chips and erosions that
show the wear of time) this is an excellent find from the period. (SD)
