Edo Era Solid Bronze Buddha Statue
Kannon
Charity Mudra with Vase
Origin: Japan, Circa: 19th century
H 5 in.(12.5cm.), W 1.75 in.(4.5cm.), D 1.75 in.(4.5cm.)
Condition: Very Good

A small Kannon which despite its modest size presents an impressive image of the all-compassionate Kannon, goddess of mercy, equipped with the vase containing the water of life, holy mala, and Amitabha crown. She stands with her right hand in varada mudra, the gesture of charity, her long robes and celestial scarves trailing to her feet, upon a double lotus throne with suggestions of waves at the bottom. A solidly cast piece; weighty. Black lacquer has worn off on the high surfaces, revealing gleaming bronze in gold and rose tones.
