Carved from the tip of the tusk and finely grained, cream color with a golden patina, stained with sumi and pigments of green, sepia, maroon, gold and white, depicting a bearded sennin seated on the back of a large turtle with a ling chi in his right hand, while a boy reaches up with his drinking gourd. Engraved details of patterning in the robes of the sennin and the boy are in well-carved foliate and geometric designs, with himotoshi through the back of the sennin’s robes.
