Of the twenty-one depictions of Tara, White Tara is the goddess of longevity
and rejuvenation. In her sumptuous femininity, she transmits compassion and sublime
equipoise that bless her devotees with long life. With two majestic lotuses rose
above her shoulders, this copper gilt bronze White Tara is beautifully realized
in classic stance. She has the delicate face of a young maiden, with eyes gazing
downward in meditation, while three all-seeing eyes are opening
at the ajana chakra and in the palm of each hand. Her countenance is a fusion
of inner contentment, and a sublime realization that embodies lucid emptiness.
The Goddess statue is a physical and transcendent form for meditators. Ultimately
it is for us to fully merge with the goddess within our consciousness. The statue's
aged patina and exceptional artistry indicated that it was made in the early 19th
century, and is in very good condition. | |
