An
antique Nepalese bronze with heavy age patina and some losses, the ferocious motif
revealing the powerful sexual imagery used in vajrayana meditation practice, which
was generally kept secret, being deemed appropriate only for advanced practitioners,of
yoga tantra who, through the power of their creative visualization, have developed
the ability to experience the consciouisness of emptiness, or Buddha nature.
In this bronze Chakrasambara is shown embracing his consort Vajrabarahi,
who carries the skull cup and other attributes which are displayed by both figures.
Chakrasambara has four heads crowned with skulls and is ornamented with garlands
of freshly severed heads. Both figures are adorned with necklaces, bracelets and
anklets.
