immaculately conditioned sliding pipe case and two-piece manju are an elegant
and simply stated pair. The pipe case, made of buffalo horn, is in flawless condition.
A silver ring lines the top of the larger half, while the smaller half easily
slides snugly in place. The case’s texture is pleasing to the touch, a finely
carved ridge pattern naturally colored black with a reddish tint. The manju is
an two-piece ashtray, and easily splits apart to reveal an unpolished ivory interior.
Though showing some wear in the form of hairline cracks on the exterior, otherwise
the manju aged beautifully. It has a multicolored luster accentuated by its remarkably
smooth shape. Made in the early 19th Century, and is in a surprisingly fine preservation.
