A
19th Century Chinese wood carving, a vigorously carved roaring foo dog with open
jaws, balancing its pup on the top of one upraised paw. The tail is thrust up
and terminates in five separate cascading sections, with long black fur on the
animal's neck and back and down the sides of its legs. Lacquered to a rich reddish
brown and contrasting black semi-gloss finish, minor age cracks, well preserved
with no losses.
