Prajnaparamita
is the personification of the sutra bearing that name (Chinese translation: Heart
Sutra). The sutra is a Buddhist treatise of fundamental importance in Mahayana
Buddhism. Hence the Goddess is popularly regarded as the Goddess of Wisdom; and
considered as the Mother of All Buddhas in Cambodia. Here In this 20th century
Angkor style bronze, the lively Prajnaparamita has ten heads, and twenty hands
fanned out like wings, each with a different emblem. Adorned with a large necklace
over her voluptuous figure, she wears a full length sampot with fishtail pleating
in front that is held by a large waistband. With full lips and large eyes, the
Goddess in a static but serene posture that exuded a sense of majesty austerity.
