wood base Condition: attached to base, o.a. good! Exceptional
in the classic simplicity of its conception, authentic and unmannered execution,
exemplary of its age; small in size and practical for use with two openings in
the carving as himotoshi. Carved from fine tusk tip ivory, cream color with age
patina, bearing a silky finish, engraved with delicacy and restraint. Depicting
with freshness and unaffected sweetness, a karako in traditional child’s attire
engraved with chrysanthemum embroideries and topped with the scalloped bib. An
auspicious talisman, the baby holds in his right hand an oogi, or wish-granting
fan, while in his left he wields a splendid specimen of ling chi, the plant of
