Condition : very good! Carved
from a section of walrus tusk with the characteristic hard surface, translucent
edges and mottled osteodentine unique to walrus ivory. Cream colored with a mellow
patina of age, depicting a youthful Kannon, the Goddess of Mercy, eyes downcast
to search for suffering sentient beings, hands clasped before her, holding her
robes which descend in fluttering folds as if ruffled by a slight breeze. Engraving
with sumi for the eyes, eyebrows and the embroidered lotus motif of her outer
garment.
