A vigorous Lion Face Goddess, Simhavaktra, finely modeled and expertly cast and gilded. Wearing elaborate jeweled girdles of severed heads, anklets, and a five-pointed crown, framing her red hair raging upward like flames, within which the head of a Garuda emerges. Simhamukha is an attendant of Palden Lhamo. She is regarded as an emanation of the Buddha. A meditational deity meant to repel all negative forces and obstacles. As a void voyager wisdom Dakini, she is often portrayed with a flaying knife and a skull cup. Here in this ferocious transformation into a Bardo Deity, Simhamukha is holding a serpent in hand, standing in a striking guardian pose, symbolizing her power and zealous protection of the Dharma. The figure rides on a rectangular shaped double-tiers pedestal, atop which are two rows of clouds. The bottom has been ceremonially sealed with an engraved double Dorje.
