o.a. very good! A
graceful carving in cream, well carved and mounted on a fitted rosewood base,
depicting a beautiful woman arranging her garment, holding a stem of roses. The
figure expresses an ideal of feminine loveliness with a quality of purity and
meditative gentleness. Fine parallel lines describe the lady's hair, fastened
in a high chignon from which it escapes to drape luxuriantly down her back. She
is adorned with earrings and simple attire with a beribboned and tasseled sash.
In keeping with the theme of natural beauty, the ivory itself is untouched by
extraneous decoration, presenting a tactile expanse of silken surfaces and curves.
