Condition: Excellent !
Seated
on a scholar rock at 5" tall, weight little over 10 oz., this is a mid size Ming
style carving of a Chinese scholar. A symbol of the Chinese fervent academic pursuit,
the Confucius ideal and promises, which served as the backbone of Chinese civilization
for two thousand years. The
carving is likely created in the early Republic China. Stylistically, its simple
elegance follows a tradition of Ming (1368) carving. The statue is carved from
a quality Asian tusk, finely polished with a even shine. It has a beautiful cream
white color, appears to be 60-70 years of age and is in excellent condition. Private Collection | |
