Buddhist Bronze Thunderbolt Hayagriva
Phurba Ritual
Dagger
Origin: Tibet. Circa: early 1900's H
15 in.(38cm), W 6 in.(15cm), D 4 in.(10cm) Condition:
very good! A
horse's head emerging at the apex is the definite avatar of Hayagriva, the wrathful
manifestation of Avalokiteshvara. He is one of the warrior deities who conquers
nagas, and thought to be especially effective to cure illnesses. As depicted in
this phurba, the nine eyes and three headed deity emerges from a Makara Dragon
handle, gushing from its mouth is a large chopper, both sides are embossed with
a fierce dragon. This large phurba is an impressive and powerful ritual instrument
for dispelling negative forces.
