Antique okimono, light cream in color with markings and patina of age. Nicely balanced design with engraved details, depicting three figures in a rocky landscape where a Tennin, a Buddhist angel who appears on a mountain playing a biwa or drum, has alighted. To encounter one, according to Japanese Buddhism, the pilgrim must climb to the summit.

Among the figures is an elder holding a scroll who stands with a goat, symbol of the retired life. The two smaller figures are on their way up the mountain to meet the Tennin, who is pictured with feathered wings and flying celestial scarves. Signed in a cartouche on the bottom: Komin.
