Ivory
Emperor and Empress, finely carved in cream colored ivory matched in color, with
striations and markings, mellow age patina with glossy surface. The couple are
attired in Quing Dynasty court regalia, the emperor seated on a five dragon throne,
the empress on a five phoenix throne. Both wear the royal hats, fully embroidered
robes, his with dragon motifs, hers bearing the phoenix symbol, along with engravings
of seafoam and spiraling clouds, floral and foliate motifs around the base. The
emperor touches his rope of pearls, while the empress holds up a treasure box
tied with a bow.
