Antique
Elephant Bridge Carving
Eleven Elephants Over
Trouble Water Origin:
China. Circa: Early 1900s' H 4.25 in.(11cm.), W 22.5 in.(57cm.), D 2 in.(5cm.)
Condition: very good This
well carved bridge is from a single piece of quality material. It is 21 inches
measured from the outside curve, and 20 inches in straight line. The bridge is
a brilliant study of eleven elephants; symbol of prosperity and universal peace.
The bridge is seated on a custom wood base that suggested raging waves. From the
largest leading elephant to the baby last in line, the bulk and presence of these
eleven elephants are acutely captured in realism. The material has an original
aged light-cream patina and a smooth finishing. It has a few tiny age cracks and
minor hairlines. The overall condition of the tusk is excellent. |
